The annual DGS Concerto Competition Winners' Concert took place on Saturday evening in the School Auditorium, with five soloists, Anson Chan (Soprano), Victoria Ng (Violin), Erica Wong (Cello), Nicole Wong (Viola), and Wong Tsz Yan (Guzheng), accompanied by the School Symphony Orchestra performing works by Bizét, Elgar, Hindemith, Saint-Saëns, and Zhou Zhan. Their performances were with greeted with enthusiasm by a packed audience of family and friends, all bearing witness to the wonderful talent of these young musicians.
Three other Concerto Competition winners, namely Canice Chiu (Flute), Chloe Chung (Piano) and Wong Pui Ying (Violin), will be travelling with the School Orchestras to Taipei in July 2018, to perform works of Chaminade, Saint-Saëns and Waxman.
Thanks must be given to our conductors and our Headmistress, Mrs. Lau, for providing our girls with this platform to further hone their skills and gain additional exposure. As we endeavour to nurture our musicians to meet greater challenges in the future, we are grateful for the many talents and blessings that the Lord has given us. May music continue to be one of the blessed ways through which we serve our community.
As this year's Hong Kong Schools Music Festival drew to a close, our Spring Concert celebrated the fruits of our musician's labour through a night of performances featuring the Chinese music ensembles and our five choirs. From the dynamic playing of the Chinese Orchestra to the heartfelt rendition of "I Carry Your Heart" by the Chairladies of the Music Department, schoolmates, parents, and friends of the school all came together to witness and be a part of the joy of our girls' music-making endeavours.
For a taste of music by our instrumentalists, friends of the school are cordially invited to our second concert on 19 May, which also includes performances by the winners of our annual Concerto Competition.
