Centennial Schools Math Competition (31st July – 5th August 2023)

At the start of August, a group of five students from the DGS Math Team departed with two teachers for Suzhou to participate in the 4th Annual Centennial Schools Mathematics Competition, a six-day contest and educational trip. It was truly our team’s delight to be representing the school and Hong Kong in this national competition, especially since it is the first time our school has joined the event on-site.

The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the contest styled as the International Mathematical Olympiad and with questions of a similar level. The contest was exclusive to fourteen invited schools with over 100 years of history, as a means to celebrate the history and beauty of mathematics. Through the contest, our team had the opportunity to understand more about our capabilities. Congratulations to two of our team members for achieving an Honorable Mention in this contest!

Aside from the competition, we also went sightseeing around the 1000-year-old school campus and major attractions in the city of Suzhou. We also had the privilege to experience dorm life and interact with fellow mathematics enthusiasts from Mainland China and Macau. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the teachers-in-charge and the school for this wonderful opportunity!
