January 2018 -- Local School Exchange Programme with Wah Yan College Kowloon

Eleven Secondary 4 students went to Wah Yan College Kowloon and studied from the 10th to 12th of January for a local school exchange programme. During these 3 days, students from both schools had the valuable opportunity to experience a different school culture from the opposite gender. This has been a very fruitful programme, which has broadened our horizons.

On the first day at Wah Yan College, Mr. Chung, the principal, gave us a big welcome and told us to look for the similarities and differences between the two schools. For instance, both schools have a lot of different ECAs, ranging from sports to music and arts. Students there are very concentrated on studies and they treated us with a most friendly attitude. Moreover, both schools have a long history. DGS is a Christian school with 158 years' history, whilst WYK is a Catholic school that has been established for 94 years.

Through the six-day exchange, we were able to acknowledge their differences and learnt to appreciate their culture. We enjoyed the lessons with laughter and enthusiasm, basking in the energetic learning atmosphere. In this new environment, we explored the big school campus and experienced different teaching styles.

Time flew by very quickly and this eye-opening programme ended too soon for most of us. However, all of us believe that this is not a farewell. The bonds and memories between us will not be broken and our friendship will last. On behalf of the exchange students, we would like to thank Wah Yan College Kowloon for organising the programme with our school and providing us a special opportunity to have a taste of their culture. We hope that this exchange will continue so that more students can benefit from the differences and the values that both schools share.
