A long-standing tradition, the annual Mini Bazaar was held successfully on 19th December, bringing together alumni, family members and friends of the School in a joyous reunion. Our alumna, Dr. Joyce Samoutou-Wong, medical missionary in the Congo, graced us with her presence as Guest of Honour, addressing the School with warmth and encouraging students to continue living out the school motto, "Daily Giving Service".
Aside from a spectacular array of products on sale, designed by our upper-form students, younger girls came together in their classes to set up creative and fun game stalls. The School also welcomed various charities and other organizations, including the Fu Hong Society, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Patient Resource Centre, Lutheran Social Service, and St. Andrew’s Church, as they set up booths selling products and snacks and introduced their services to the wider community. Young and old alike enjoyed the day of celebration and giving, and proceeds of the Bazaar will go to various charitable organizations as we pay forward the grace we have received.
We thank God for His blessings upon the months of planning and smooth running of the Bazaar, and the opportunity to give to those in need out of His abundant provision.
This year's Speech Day was a joyful occasion as the School welcomed back the latest cohort of graduates and celebrated the achievements of our girls in both academic and non-academic arenas. We were graced with the presence of many distinguished guests, members of the School Council, the Diocesan Old Girls' Association, the Parent-Teacher Association, parents, and friends of the School.
The Headmistress Mrs. Lau delivered her address on the need for graduates to equip themselves with the skills and mindset needed for today’s ever-changing landscape, particularly in light of the rapid changes that technology has brought to society in recent years. Our Guest of Honour, Professor Tony F. Chan, President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, reciprocated in kind in his address, sharing with graduates his experiences and insights on how best to navigate the rapid advances in modern-day society and advising them to capitalize on their youth to realize their ambitions and dreams.
After the presentation of prizes and awards, the Head Girls and Assistant Head Girl represented the student body to give the Votes of Thanks in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, expressing their gratitude to the School, parents, teachers, and classmates for their time of learning and growth at DGS. We praise God for the grace and honour He has bestowed on our School for the past year and for the blessings in the years to come.
