19-21 March 2019 -- Outbound Visit to Singapore Chinese Girls' School for the SCMUN Youth Conference 2019

Ten DGS girls participated in the SCMUN Youth Conference 2019, accompanied by Ms. Ahuja. It was an unforgettable experience, where we not only debated on pressing global issues, but also built enduring friendships with our peers in the Lion City.

In the tradition of Straits Chinese hospitality, SCGS welcomed us with exquisite packages of delicious local snacks. During the ice breaking activities, delegates from both schools chatted about school life, and soon the last vestiges of awkwardness vanished between the guests and the hosts. Our new friends took us on a tour around their enormous campus, where classes are named Perseverance and Diligence, and rooms have names of spices, like Nutmeg. I also found out two from the SCGS reception party would be the chairpersons of my council during the conference.

New experiences for me included biting into the famous Krispy Kreme doughnuts and bowls of açai. I thoroughly enjoyed the food we had in Singapore. However, nothing beat the fun of preparing for speeches with my friends in our hotel rooms each night. The process, though tiring, cemented our friendship as well as enriched our knowledge.

The exchanges with the chairperson and other delegates at this conference not only refined my presentation skills, but also enlarged my social circle. I now count Indonesians and Singaporeans among my friends for life. I realized that the purpose of this trip was not just about bringing home the Best Delegate award, but also making friends, having fun and improving myself. I have more confidence in public speaking, after SCMUN.

I am privileged to have had this opportunity to be a part of the SCMUN Youth Conference 2019. I would like to give special thanks to the SCGS delegates for a memorable experience, the chairpersons of my council for their guidance, Ms. Ahuja for arranging our trip and visits to restaurants, and last but not least, Mrs. Lau for making such opportunities available. We are grateful to have had this chance to challenge ourselves and grow intellectually.
