8-9 July 2016 -- 2016 Summer Concerts and Music Tour to Guangzhou

The final weekend of this academic year was especially exciting for our school's musicians. On the 8th and 9th of July, our summer concerts were held successfully with our choirs and instrumental ensembles performing to a full house. The first concert, "Sounds of Joy", features choirs and some ensembles. On the second night, two of the three concerto competition winners, Megan Tang (soprano) and Macy Yau (violin) performed their winning movements. Worthy of special mention is the inauguration of the DOGA orchestra, conducted by our Performing Arts Director Mr. Leung Kin Fung. The DOGA orchestra members also joined the DGS Symphony Orchestra in performing Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini, Op. 43, with our old girl Nicolette Wong on piano. As we proudly say, Once a DGS girl, always a DGS girl.

After the school has been dismissed for the summer holidays, the orchestras and band travelled to Guangzhou's Xinghai Concert Hall to take part in The Second School Orchestra Festival of Four Regions Across the Straits, which took place from July 12th to 14th. Each participating school from from Guangzhou, Macao and Taiwan performed their own repertoire, and our school featured our last concerto competition winner Elise Liu (marimba), as she was competing in Wales while we held our own summer concerts. The performances by our girls were all very well-received. They were also lauded for their outstanding performance in the joint performance with students across the four regions in a full performance of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake Suite (Op. 20a) and Klaus Badelt's arrangement of music from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
