DGS celebrates Speech Day (9 January 2026)

DGS celebrates Speech Day with visit by alumna scientist Professor Lee and an intimate fireside chat (9 January 2026)

This year’s Speech Day, held in the midst of our 165th anniversary celebrations, was yet another a joyous occasion as the School welcomed back our newest cohort of graduates, and celebrated the achievements of our girls in both academic and non-academic arenas. We were honoured to have with us three Guests of Honour from the DGS family, including alumna Professor Virginia Man-Yee Lee, Director of the Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research at the Research University of Pennsylvania; Mrs. Doris Ho, our former School Supervisor who served DGS for almost four decades; and Mr. Hardy Lok, a dedicated member of our School Council. We were also graced with the presence of many distinguished guests, members of the School Council, the Diocesan Old Girls Association, the Parent-Teacher Association, parents, and friends of the School.

The Headmistress Mrs. Lau gave a report on the school year, and exhorted the DGS community to hold fast to Christian values in the rapidly changing world shaped by the rise of generative artificial intelligence. Professor Lee then addressed the audience, sharing candidly on the twists and turns in her academic journey from her days as a DGS girl, to be followed by a warm “fireside chat” by Mrs. Ho and Mr. Lok, sharing their memories and advice as DGS parents and grandparents and individuals who have shaped DGS in extraordinary ways.

After the presentation of prizes and awards, the Head Girls and Assistant Head Girl represented the student body to give the Votes of Thanks in English, Cantonese and Putonghua, expressing their gratitude to the School, parents, teachers, and classmates for their time of learning and growth at DGS. We praise God for the grace and honour He has bestowed upon our School for the past year and for the blessings in years to come.
