16 November 2018 -- Speech Day

The annual Speech Day was a joyous occasion for the School as we welcomed back our newest cohort of graduates, with the support of many distinguished guests, members of the School Council, the Diocesan Old Girls Association, the Parent-Teacher Association, parents, and friends of the School.

The night’s events commenced at 5:30 p.m. in the Auditorium, opening with a prayer by Reverend Alex McCoy and a report on the year by the Headmistress. Mrs. Lau also shared her personal insights on the new pedagogical focus of developing “design thinking” in our students, as well as how these skills can be implemented seamlessly within the DGS curriculum.

We were graced with the presence of Mr. Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, JP, Secretary for Education, as our Guest of Honour, who then addressed the audience. Mr. Yeung gave the exhortation to our girls to not only strive to take advantage of the myriad of opportunities offered them, but also to uphold the legacy of the School in using their education to give back to society.

After the presentation of prizes and awards, the Head Girls and Assistant Head Girl represented the student body to give Votes of Thanks in English, Cantonese and Putonghua, expressing their gratitude to the School, parents, teachers, and classmates for their time of learning and growth at DGS. The night ended with the School Hymn, and the Right Reverend Andrew Chan gave the closing prayer and benediction. As we celebrate the achievements of our girls in both academic and non-academic arenas, we praise God for the grace and honour He has bestowed on our School for the past year and beyond.
