20 November 2015 -- Speech Day

Held on the same day as the Thanksgiving Service, the Lord’s bounteous blessings on the School are contextualized in our annual Speech Day, where we celebrate the achievements of our students in academics, music, sports and other categories.

Since Speech Day is also a time for reunion and catching up, the evening began with a round of tea and freshly-made treats being served at the Lecture Hall, The Speech Day commenced at 5:30pm in the Auditorium, opening with a prayer by the Right Revd Andrew Chan and a report on the year by the Headmistress.

Professor Deborah Chung, our Guest of Honour, then addressed the audience with the spiritual testimony of herself and her mother, who was an old girl at the School in the 1940s. Her address encapsulated how women of excellence and scientific reason can also find solace in the wisdom of God and see that faith being proven through and through. It is a timely message for the girls who next stepped up on stage, ready to collect prizes and certificates – fruits of their hard work and talent. The Head Girls and Assistant Head Girl represented the student body to give Votes of Thanks in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, expressing their gratitude for the education and support that they have received at DGS.
