April 2018 -- Exchange with the High School Affiliated to Fudan University

On April, 20 secondary 4 girls from Diocesan Girls' School went to Shanghai and took part in the China Cultural Exchange Program for 5 days. Our girls had a very enjoyable time there having the chance to visit tourists spots in the city and experiencing the life of Shanghai students, leaving us meaningful and unique experiences.

During the stay, we shadowed our buddies and attended the lessons and extracurricular activities with them. We also got to experience morning exercises and self-study sessions. The teachers from Shanghai also brought us to various tourist spots around Shanghai such as Zhoujiajiao, the Bund, Yu Garden and many more. The teachers also prepared orienteering activities for us in some of the tourist spots. We all enjoyed the hands-on activities, completing tasks while running around and exploring the tourist spots for ourselves.

The buddies and teachers there were all very welcoming and friendly. The buddies were more than willing to show us around the school campus and tell us about snippets of their school life, taking us out for lunch and letting us visit their dormitory. They had made us feel at home and let us know more about the life of a student in Shanghai. The students there were also very helpful and even volunteered to help us do our interview for a project we needed to complete enthusiastically. We are all very grateful for the students there who had helped us and went all out of their way to make us feel welcome.

I think we all agree that the highlight of this trip is the project "Humans of Shanghai" that we needed to complete during our stay. The task required us interview locals inhabitants of  Shanghai to find out more about their lives and culture in Shanghai. At first, we were a bit reluctant to complete the project but after carrying it out we realized that we really enjoyed the process of interviewing people of different backgrounds and also our buddies and new friends at school. This project made us know more about the lives of people in Shanghai and allowed us to compare their lives to the one we have in Hong Kong.

Though the five days of our trip has passed so quickly, we believe that the friendships garnered during the program with our buddies and new friends will remain in future days to come. We would like to extend our gratitude to both schools for organizing this wonderful program for us. We would like to thanks the teachers from Shanghai who had put in a lot of effort in preparing wonderful activities for us and bringing us to different tourists spots in Shanghai. Thanks must also be given to the two teachers from DGS who accompanied us throughout the trip, taking care of us from the moment we arrived to the airport and to the moment we were dismissed at Chep Lap Kok Airport. Last but not least thanks must be given to Mrs Lau for generously supporting us throughout the trip.
