April 2018 -- Exchange with National Tainan Girls' Senior High School

From 9th to 14th of April 2018, 20 S.4 girls from Diocesan Girls' School took part in the exchange programme to Tainan, Taiwan for 6 days. Our girls had the opportunity to experience the life of a Tainan student, as well as to tour around different spots of the city, and have a taste of delectable Tainanese food. Tainan is a city with a warm hospitality, which further made our trip enjoyable and unforgettable.

We attended classes at National Tainan Girls' Senior High School. The school very kindly arranged for us to attend a variety of classes. For example, we had the chance to make our own notepads, join different clubs and societies and to attend cookery lesson. One of the most interesting lessons was their extra elective lesson. Our students got to attend board game, modern dance and stress relief classes, which were relatively new experiences and eye-opening for us. Students there were very kind to show us around the school, recommend us good food from the tuck shop and teach us difficult concepts that we had never encountered before. The girls from this school were also very passionate about volleyball, and we had the chance to watch them play in the inter-class competition. The players' use of various techniques and the crowd’s heartfelt cheer added excitement and pleasure to the trip.

Even though there was a difference in the mode of education in National Tainan Girls' Senior High School and Diocesan Girls' School, we also saw many similarities in both schools. Both schools have a long history of cultivating and educating girls to become the future pillars of the society, and the girls were also very ardent towards learning and enthusiastic during lessons. Moreover, both schools also have different extra curriculum activities and programmes to widen their student’s view and broaden their horizons.

The 6-day exchange programme came to an end too quickly. Though many of us may feel downcast, we will definitely not forget the spirit and virtue we have learned from the locals, and the friendship that we have cultivated with the students. Thanks must be given to National Tainan Girls' Senior High School for their hospitable reception and warm welcome. We would also like to thank Mrs. Lau for arranging this unforgettable, eye-opening exchange programme, and Miss PY Chan and Mr. KC Lo for taking care of us during the trip.
