January - February 2018 -- Local School Exchange Programme with Queen's College

The local exchange programme between Queen's College and Diocesan Girls' School was successfully held during January and February. Twelve boys from QC paired up with twelve girls from DGS to attend lessons, extra-curricular activities as well as have lunches together. We were given the opportunity to interact with the opposite gender in a school setting, and learn about similarities and differences between the two schools.

When we first arrived at Queen's College, our QC buddies led us on a school tour. While exploring their campus, visiting their Heritage Centre and conversing with our buddies, we were mesmerized by their beautiful grass field and canteen serving a variety of snacks and lunch meals. Although QC and DGS both have a long history of more than 155 years, our campuses are uniquely distinct. The QC campus is much more conventional compared to DGS's contemporary campus.

In terms of learning exposure, both schools also aim to broaden students' horizons by having more diverse activities and learning opportunities. The boys have Life Education and Art lessons weekly, which are similar to our Form Period and Aesthetic Development lessons. Activities include talks delivered by eminent guests and they also held cultural film appreciation. Like us, they have committees organizing activities for different clubs and teams, while Prefects and the Student Union serve the school community.

During the inbound visit, the boys were impressed by the modern campus at DGS with all sorts of facilities and rooms. They also appreciated our English learning environment and our freedom to openly share ideas with teachers during lessons. These similarities and differences between the two schools have further allowed us to learn from each other throughout this 6-day programme.
